Thorwald John Tvedt Jr. 84, of Angleton, Texas passed away on March 27, 2024. Born in New Orleans on December 2, 1939, Torry, as he was affectionately known, dedicated his life to the field of chemical engineering, serving as a Water Specialist for Dow Chemical Company. His remarkable contributions included inventing Caustic Soda Beads, a breakthrough innovation that profoundly impacted the industry.


Throughout his illustrious career, Torry's work took him to various corners of the globe, allowing him to explore over a dozen countries as part of his professional endeavors. A man of diverse talents and interests, he was known not only for his expertise in the chemical sector but also for his skill as a woodworker, bringing beauty and craftsmanship to everything he touched.


In his personal life, Torry shared countless joys with his beloved wife, Ruth, whom he met at the "Sunday Nighters Group" at the Lake Jackson Methodist Church. Their connection was instantaneous, leading to a cherished union that began on August 5, 1966, in Lone Star, Texas. Together, they embarked on seven memorable cruises, exploring destinations such as Alaska and Europe, creating endearing memories that will forever be treasured.


Torry's life was rich with meaningful connections and experiences. An active member and President of the Brazosport Orchestra Council and an ardent supporter of the arts, he found joy in the beauty of classical music, attending concerts and events with Ruth, including their very first date at a classical music concert in Freeport.


Torry's legacy lives on through his daughter, Angela Jakubik, son-in-law Paul, and his grandchildren Annika and Collin Jakubik, all of Plano, Texas. He is also survived by his nieces, Debra and Kim Simpson of Austin, Texas.

Those preceding Torry in death are his parents, Thorwald and Ruth H. Tvedt, Sr. and his sister, Marilyn Simpson.
