Tom Edward Gaines

March 20, 1928 — June 19, 2023

Tom Edward Gains, 95 of Angleton, Texas passed away on June 19, 2023. Tom was born in Somerville, Texas on March 20, 1928, the 7th of 10 children, to Sam and Ada Gaines. In his youth, he worked at the family store sweeping floors and stocking shelves. He was quite athletic, earning a district tennis championship title and serving as the starting quarterback for the Somerville Yeguas. Like every one of his brothers, Tom joined the service right out of high school, travelled the globe while in the Navy and returned as an accomplished machinist. After the service, Tom briefly attended Texas A&M and remained a faithful Aggie fan his entire life. Tom met the love of his life, Jeanie Bryant, and they married. Not long after, they moved to the Brazosport area, settling in Angleton where he worked at Dow until his retirement. Tom was a faithful husband and dedicated Dad and he and Jeannie gifted their family with a strong model for marriage and parenting. Tom also loved fishing, golf and the outdoors and took time to expose the four children to all those things. Tom was a believer in Jesus and always exhibited strong moral values. Tom was a quiet man with remarkable wit intelligence and wisdom. He was able to do anything he set his mind to from electronics to carpentry to boat building. After retiring from Dow, Tom built their retirement home where he gardened, fished and enjoyed golf. It was there on nearly every Sunday afternoon, until the last years, you could find the entire family enjoying a meal and time together. Those times we shared will be missed the most. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian and his loving wife of 72 years Jeannie. Left to cherish his memory are children: Tommy Gaines (Belinda), Wallace Gaines (Radonna), Barbara Hutto (Bubba), Debbie Gaines; Grandchildren: Colby Gaines (Paige), Chase Gaines (Courtney), Lauren Jones (Joby), Tracy McLallen (Mike), Morgan Royce (David), Zach Hutto, Jon Gaines, and Rachel Gaines. He also leaves behind numerous great and great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Pecan Estates family who have generously loved & helped Mom & Dad through the years. They would also like to thank K's Place for their love and care.
