Viola Rosie Lander

February 19, 1937 — July 6, 2012

On July 6, 2012, surrounded by her children, Viola Rosie (Walcik) Lander finished her battle and was released to be with our Lord Jesus and a new life with our Heavenly Father. Preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Travis Lander, Viola is survived by six children: (John and Zola Lander of Sugarland, TX; Bill and Jackie Lander of Danbury, TX; Diana Begnaud of Fort Worth, TX; David and Janie Lander of Amarillo, TX; Mark and Kim Lander of Lake Jackson, TX, and Michael Lander of Angleton, TX; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Born February 19, 1937, to Willie Walcik (deceased) and Anne Frances Drastata, Viola shared a fulfilling life with her surviving brothers and their spouses (Bill and Shirley Walcik and Bob and Lou Walcik of Angleton, TX, Randy and P.J. Walcik of Midland, MI, James and Brenda Walcik of Rancho Cucamonga, CA). Viola married our dad, Jack Travis Lander on June 25, 1955, at St. Anthony's in Danbury, TX She loved our dad even after death. Our dad, stricken with a terminal illness, mom became a tireless warrior to care for him. After 28 years of marriage, our father finally succumbed We all have seen the hardship our mom endured. She never quit fighting for our dad, ever. She had such a passion for gamesmanship. She loved many games - especially solitaire, canasta, chess, dominoes and bowling. Growing up, our matches were not just for a win, it was usually for a "world championship" (at least for a day). She loved taking her mom to the V.I.P. (Senior Ministry) for some serious domino playing. The seniors appreciate the efforts of Francis and Betty Fief for giving them gamesmanship which inspired vigor of renewal. Our mom also enjoyed viewing activities outside of her backyard window with many birds and wildlife that squandered for seed treats or corncobs. Mother worked for the rectory at St. Basils, Catholic Church in Angleton from 1970 until 1990. Our mom was a very faithful follower and helped in many aspects in its ministry. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters and KJZT. The family of Viola would like to thank Betty Smith of Angleton for being a devoted friend for her until death. And to our brother, Michael, we thank him for the tireless care that he gave her. Mom, we are comforted knowing God will make way for you. We love and will miss you very much.
