Wilber Johnnie Schiller

Wilber Johnnie Schiller, 86, of Angleton, Texas passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 4, 2014. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Angleton, Texas. Funeral services are scheduled at 11:00 a.m. at the church with graveside services to follow at Angleton Cemetery. Wilber was born September 11, 1927 in Sealy, Texas to Joseph and Vlasta Schiller. He attended and graduated from Sealy High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. After returning home from serving his country, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Grawunder and they married at St. John's Lutheran Church on April 26, 1952 in Bellville, Texas. They had 62 years of wonderful marriage. Never forgetting the hard lessons of the depression, Wilber was always thankful the good stable job at Dow Chemical where he worked for 39 years. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed the people he worked with. Wilber and Dorothy raised two wonderful sons, Glenn, with whom he shared the love of gardening; and Boyd with whom he shared the love of hunting and fishing. He was cherished by many in the community for his generosity and caring spirit. Many benefitted from his hard work and beautiful garden. He was an active member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Angleton. He was also a member of several other local organizations, which included the Hunting and Fishing Club, the Optimist Club, and the Legionnaire. Wilber was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Edwin, Lawrence, Melvin, and Melton Schiller, and sisters Nadine Dowdy, Earline Goebel, and Hattie Dietz. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons Glenn, wife Laura, and Boyd, wife Kim, grandchildren Ben and Hannah Schiller, and his step-granddaughter Allyson Smith. He is also survived by his sisters Waldine Jones, Gladys Leatherwood, twin sister Joyce Johnston, a loving extended family, and very special family friend Sandy Thomas. We would like to thank Country Village Care, Altus Hospice, and Dr.'s Mikkilineni, Dabaghi, and Pepper for their genuine love and attentive care during our time of need.
