William Edward Burns

William "Bill" Burns, 88, of Angleton, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019. Bill was born February 14, 1931 in Ft. Worth Texas to Albert Franklin & Alice Jewel Richardson Burns. In high school, Bill was a star athlete in football, basketball and track, the beginning of a very active and interesting life. Bill started the Lake Jackson Aquatic Club and coached swimmers for many years. He had several nationally ranked swimmers including his younger son, Jimmy. Upon his retirement from Dow Chemical, he and Anne, his wife of 69 years, moved to Colorado for approximately 20 years where he owned THE INN Motel in South Fork, CO. While in Colorado, he and Anne became avid snowmobilers. He was President of the Colorado Snowmobile Association, from 1993-95. In 1994, he and his oldest son, Eddie, led a group of snowmobilers on the 1100 mile Alaskan Iron Dog, the equivalent of Iditarod on snowmobiles. His love for Alaska also led him to work as a supervisor on the Alaskan oil spill in 1989. In 1999, He and Anne again retired and moved to Fredericksburg, Tx for 12 years. During those years he helped both sons build hunting lodges including a large fully engineered bridge. He and Anne moved to Angleton, Texas in 2011. He enjoyed his hobbies of fishing, hunting, gardening and travel. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 5 sisters, and a grandson, Jonathan David Burns. Bill is survived by his loving wife Beverly Anne Shamburger Burns; his children, William Edward Burns Jr., M.D. & wife Rosa MacDonald Burns of Lake Jackson, Cynthia Anne Cornelius & husband Larry of Angleton, Kathye Lynn Milburn & husband Cody of Kingwood, James Ellis Burns & wife Linda of Trussville, Alabama, and Beverly Jean Burns of Willis, Texas. His Grandchildren, Patrick Aaron Burns, Michael Edward Burns, PhD, Bethany Anne Burns, Alyson White, Rachel Brooks, Erica Lynn Milburn, Major Jessica Leigh Milburn, Monica Jane Milburn, Justen Ellis Burns, & Jennifer Lindsey Averette. His Great-grandchildren, Kylee Burns, Linden Burns, Rylan Burns, Penelope MacDonald, Luke MacDonald, Aidan Mac Donald, Allister MacDonald, Quinn MacDonald, Kylan MacDonald, Joanne Marie MacDonald, Rowen MacDonald, & Ronak MacDonald, Wesley James White, Isabella Burns, Maddie Averette, & Axel Averette. Visitation will be Sunday, May 26, 2019 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton. Funeral services will follow 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Angleton Cemetery in Angleton Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson in support of the ministry of Warren Brave Santiago, missionary to the Philippines that the family has supported for many years.
