When his parents were not well, during his pre-teen years, he began to take care of them and the farm along with his siblings. That is when he started to learn how to cook and never stopped cooking for others. He was a mechanic in the army and served in the Korean Conflict. He and his brother Auburn came to Angleton in 1955 and started a scrap yard in the quarters. Then bought the property on 288 and opened his business Hi-Way Auto Parts. Then in his later years took over Mikes Bikes from his son-in-law. Bill was a member of Second Baptist Church of Angleton since 1960. He was also a member of the Mason's for over 50 years. Bill mentored many men and women throughout the years, a "Father to the Fatherless." He was known in the community as an honest, hard-working great man, truly an example to be followed. His nephew Chuck quoted, "He showed God by the way he lived. " Throughout his life he never turned anyone down in business or personal. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He will be missed by many. Bill, Dad, Papa, Uncle Bill, Jumbo, exemplified the fruits of the spirit, "Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, and Self-Control, Gal 5: 22-23."
