In Loving Memory of Willie Lee Johnson April 10, 1919 ~ November 27, 2016 Willie Lee Monk Johnson, 97, of Danbury, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016. She was born on April 10, 1919 to William Jasper and Susan Gaston Monk in Alto, Texas. She was married to Nolan Johnson on June 3, 1936. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Willie Lee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Johnson and her parents; William Jasper and Susan Anderson Gaston Monk, and infant great grandson, Travis Allen Johnson, and great-great grandson, Paul Fernando Baez. Left to cherish Willie Lee's memory are her son; Travis Johnson and wife, Frances of Cypress, Texas, her daughter, Sue Minkert and husband, John of Angleton, Texas, and her sister, Lucelle Shugart of Waxahachie, Texas. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren In the fifties, Willie Lee worked as a ‘Number Please' telephone operator in West Columbia, and later in Houston's Medical Center with a doctor's answering service. She continued her work career and retired from Texas Instruments as a quality control inspector. Willie Lee was a most amazing woman. She taught her family by example about hard work, honesty, and frugality, as well as love, laughter and tenderness. She never stopped learning. To her, books were an adventure and math was a puzzle to be solved. She was not afraid to try new things. Even at 97 she was using Facebook as her window to the world. Navigating the World Wide Web, she played games with people from all over the world. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed crocheting, tatting and other forms of needlework. She loved making pretty things. She learned oil painting later in her life and created beautiful pictures which she lovingly gave to her family and friends. She found relaxation in nature whether fishing with her grandchildren or sitting on the patio watching and listening to the birds sing. She loved animals and always had a pet close by to love.
