Willie Richard Day Sr. Willie Day, 82 of Angleton, TX, was born February 14, 1931 in Iola, Grimes County, Texas raised in Bedias, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother Nannie Mae Ward Day and father Walter Malvin Day, first wife and mother of his children, Mary Coleman Day, sister Malvanee Day Singletary, sister Billie Day NeSmith. Willie is survived by his wife, Barbara Day, children; daughter Elizabeth Day & Husband Tom Jones, son, Willie R. "Scooter" Day Jr. & wife Phyllis Demonico, and daughter Patricia & husband Alan Turk. Grandchildren are Lindsay & husband Ray Ludvingsen, Nolan Ryan Hewitt, Cody Day, Natalie Turk & Nathan Turk. Sister, Hazel & husband Kelly Ray Jackson, sister, Bonnie Jurries, stepdaughter Susan, husband Denton & children Morgan Self, Jordan Cantrell & husband Josh, daughter Stacy, husband Craig Oliphant & children Rachel, Stephen & Laura. Willie enlisted in the US Navy in March 1948, and served his country till January 1952. He was shipwrecked 42 hours while on assignment in the Caribbean. Returning to Grimes County after his service, he heard about jobs in Brazoria County Texas. Upon his arrival to Brazoria County he was able to find work at the fishing expedition that was sponsored by the Navy Moms-The Organizer, Florence Coleman - later to become his mother in law. Mary and Willie were married 45 years upon her death. God in his mercy decided that Willie didn't need to be alone, whereas he brought Barbara Palmer into his life, and they have enjoyed 14 years of joy and happiness together, blessing both families with his humor and retirement hobbies and of course food from his garden and his ever famous brisket. You may have known Willie through his many jobs, interests and hobbies. Whether it be his vocation as a welder, pipefitter with Local 211, insurance agent with American National or Franklin Life, maintenance supervisor for Angleton Independent School District, later with Brazos Mall, and Brazoria County Maintenance Dept. He and Mary Later owned the former Lauzon's True Value Hardware, changing the name later to Day's True Value Hardware in Angleton. He served in several organizations that were his passions: Angleton Masonic Lodge of 40 years, VFW Post #10378 for 30+ years. He served 28 years combined with the Alvin and Angleton Fire Department - our other family, Was also the current President of the Angleton Cemetery Association. His hobbies ALWAYS included season tickets and supporter of the Angleton Wildcats football team for over 45 years (Wildcat fans ON YOUR FEET!!), ALWAYS included a garden and always willing to share in the abundance of the fruit of his labor with the St. Thomas Food Pantry and many friends and family. One of his favorite sayings "What are you good for??" Didn't he have some stories to tell?? One of the most important values that Dad taught us was that we were to be responsible and productive members of society, it is our God given right to maintain a free country. A Visitation will be held Sunday, December 1, 2013 from 5-7:00pm at First Baptist Church in Angleton, TX. Funeral services are set for Monday, December 2, 2013 at 10:00am. Also at First Baptist Church of Angleton. Burial to Follow at Angleton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Jimmy Jurries, Gary Jurries, Ricky Jackson, Ronnie Jackson, Charlie Singletary & Roger Singletary.
